I spent several hours today re-working the website. Gone is the picture I stole off a work ID badge four years ago... replaced with a picture I took today, wearing my Fire jersey that my friends gave me for my birthday.

The Tigers just traded for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis, so ESPN has a special edition of Baseball Tonight. It's got Buster Olney, Peter Gammons, and Karl Ravech just batting around names and potentials. It makes me wish the Cubs were doing something this winter. It also makes the Tigers a favorite for next year.

Several months ago, I saw a CNN special on religion. A pastor from Minnesota, Greg Boyd was mentioned. He had preached a sermon series called The Cross and the Sword. The series is premised on the idea that there is a kingdom of God and a kingdom of this world. The Kingdom of God is about Christ-like love and exerting "power under" people (service). The kingdom of this world is ruled by Satan (but used by God for good purposes)... but at its heart, the kingdom of this world is about exerting power over people by force. Boyd's premise is that the two should be completely separate.

Re-reading, my mini-summary doesn't really do it justice, but I wholeheartedly recommend that you give it a listen. After putting it off for a few months, I listened to the first sermon (of five) yesterday... and have now listened to all five of them. There's a certain power when truth is spoken, and spoken with love. I've already ordered the book written on the series and am excited to read it.

Speaking of reading... I've done a fair bit lately and I'll start with some book reviews soon.
